GRANTS AND INITIATIVES
In addition to managing federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) funds from the US Department of Labor, Worksystems has a highly successful track record of bringing additional grants and other resources into the community. We pursue funds to support and expand proven best practice programs and to provide customized training to target populations such as disconnected youth, public housing residents, veterans, ex-offenders, long-term unemployed, English language learners, low-income job seekers, and workers impacted by mass layoffs. We also pursue funds to support training in key occupations for target sector industries such as Advanced Manufacturing, Health Care, Software/IT and Construction.
Since 1998, Worksystems has brought over $100 million in competitive grant resources into the community.
Current Grants and Special Initiatives:
Economic Opportunity Program an initiative to help low-income individuals develop career goals and pursue training that lead to self-sufficiency.
SummerWorks is a locally funded public/private partnership that supports youth through their first work experience.
Back to Work Oregon is a hire first program that places unemployed job seekers in jobs while providing resources to the businesses to help train the new employees.
Health Careers NW supports career growth and progress in seven healthcare fields by offering one-on-one career coaching, career exploration in the healthcare fields, training that results in an employer- or industry-recognized credential as well as job search and placement assistance.
Housing Works is an innovative, bi-state collaboration between 3 Workforce Investment Boards and 4 Public Housing Agencies working together to help 480 public housing residents gain the life and employment skills necessary to attain self-sufficiency.
NW Promise is a $6 million four-year grant that seeks to train and place historically under-represented populations into Healthcare (HC) and Tech (IT) occupations with a solid career pathway into sustainable, living wage employment.
Reboot Northwest is a $8.5M, four-year grant funded to train 850 long-term unemployed and 150 veterans in manufacturing and tech occupations.
TechRise is designed to prepare young adults (ages 18 – 29) with barriers to employment to enter and advance in local tech occupations.
