Job Club Enriches Work Experience for Youth

August 22nd, 2013

Youth who participate in a summer work experience learn valuable workplace skills but they are not always able to articulate what they learned and apply it to their next opportunity. Enter Job Club.

Coordinated by Worksystems, Job Club teaches young people how to talk about their summer work experience in a job interview and on their resume. It also helps them craft an “accomplishment statement” to serve as a 30 second elevator pitch about themselves. In addition, Job Club teaches valuable life skills such as financial literacy by showing young people how to create and stick to a budget and explaining the ins-and-outs of banking.

350 youth participated in Job Club this year.

Youth have provided positive feedback on Job Club and they especially enjoy interacting with community leaders such as Commissioner Loretta Smith who addressed the group this year.

We will continue to look for new program elements to add to enrich the summer work experience for area youth.
