The “Here for Portland” initiative, which launched downtown, has expanded to include the Foster-Powell business district!
On May 7th from noon – 6:00 the Portland Mercado held Makers de Mayo to support local BIPOC businesses and the Foster-Powell business district. This market and celebration featured onsite local vendors and entertainment.
At the Makers de Mayo event, two thousand $50 Kuto App gift credits were issued that can be spent at small local restaurant and retail businesses participating in “Here for Portland, Foster-Powell“. Credits disbursed through this program can be spent at participating small and local restaurant and retail businesses in and around Foster-Powell. They can be used for making purchases as well as for tipping frontline workers.
Pandemic closures have hit small restaurant and retail businesses particularly hard over the past two years. This initiative encourages intentional shopping and dining to help them recover, prioritizing BIPOC owned businesses, low-income entrepreneurs, food carts, and businesses impacted by break-ins and vandalism.
Here for Portland, Foster-Powell is funded by the City of Portland and Worksystems and is a collaboration of the Office of Mayor Ted Wheeler, Portland Action Tables, Prosper Portland, Portland State University, Portland Community College, Bricks Need Mortar, Kuto App, Foster Area Business Association, Portland Mercado, Hacienda CDC’s Portland Mercado, and Venture Portland.
