Worksystems, Workforce SW Washington, and SE Works, have announced a new partnership to launch CareerWork$ Medical in the greater Portland area beginning on October 15th. This innovative healthcare career job program offers free, eight-week training, placement assistance, and ongoing coaching to provide the support young adults need for not only getting the job, but advancing in a career. The comprehensive curriculum was co-developed by healthcare employers and community-based organizations to ensure both participant and employer success.
This effort is a priority of the Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation to connect students who have the attitude and aptitude for success but lack the access to meaningful employment, with employers who are looking for talent that reflects the communities in which they do business. Participants graduate ready for their first day on the job in the healthcare field and have an opportunity to interview with industry partners during a personalized job fair. Employers are hiring for in-demand, entry-level roles with career potential, such as patient service coordinator, family support specialist, and numerous medical office roles.

Since 2006, CareerWork$ has partnered with community-based organizations in 14 cities across the nation to launch over 2,600 new banking and healthcare careers. Their signature program, BankWork$®, has been operating in the Portland Metro Area since 2016 and has placed over 240 talented individuals with a multitude of banks and financial institutions. With the introduction of CareerWork$ Medical, Worksystems Workforce SW Washington and SE Works anticipate training and placing 100 local-area job seekers with some of the region’s premier healthcare providers.
“What’s so special about this program, is that, beyond training and connecting people to jobs, it also provides an on-ramp to long-term careers in a growing industry” says Worksystems, Executive Director Andrew McGough. “We can build a stronger workforce all around, and give people the confidence they need to advance their career goals.”
