Job & Resource Career Expo to Connect Jobseekers and Employers in Washington County
Event supports recently laid-off workers and veterans; open to all jobseekers
Hillsboro, OR – On Wednesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wingspan Conference and Event Center, local partners will host a Job & Resource Career Expo designed to connect jobseekers with employers, resources, and workshops. The event is free and open to all.
The Job & Resource Career Expo was organized in direct response to the needs of recently laid-off Intel workers and veterans returning from active duty; however, anyone seeking employment resources will be welcome. The Expo underscores how regional leaders are working together to keep workers in Washington County, strengthen local businesses, and provide a path forward for all community members.
Worksystems, the Portland-metro workforce development board, is leading this effort, bringing together a coalition of partners including Washington County, City of Hillsboro, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource, and other Local Workforce Development Boards.
“This event is about rapid action and community collaboration,” said Washington County Commissioner Pam Treece, who also serves on the Worksystems Board. “We are committed to ensuring that highly skilled workers can stay in Washington County and continue to contribute to our local economy.”
Worksystems has also applied for a $2 million U.S. Department of Labor dislocated worker grant to provide longer-term support to those impacted by recent layoffs. Planning the Job & Resource Career Expo has created a blueprint to build on for future events, allowing Worksystems and partners to be even more efficient and nimble in response to worker and employer needs.
“I am proud of the work being done by local employers, community partners, and industry groups to help keep Oregon’s talent in the region,” adds City of Hillsboro Mayor Beach Pace. “This event is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the people who make Hillsboro and Oregon an innovation hub can keep living and working here. To the job seekers: We value you, and we’re working to keep you in the region.”
