A Win for Oregon’s Workforce

Governor Tina Kotek has signed SB 1512: Prosperity Programs into law, protecting a proven workforce investment that helps Oregonians move into family‑wage jobs while strengthening our economy.

Prosperity Programs are a revenue‑generating strategy, not an expense. Oregon’s initial investment returned nearly $3 for every $1 invested, increased tax revenue, and helped participants earn average wages of $22.73 per hour, with most working full time and earning above Oregon’s Self‑Sufficiency Standard.

Behind the numbers are real people. As one participant shared:

“I started to regain my sense of self‑worth and remembered that I was capable of working again.”

With career coaching and a Prosperity‑funded scholarship, he earned his Class A license, passed his apprenticeship exam, and secured a job with Union Pacific Railroad.

Today, he’s an active participant in his community, doing volunteer work, paying taxes, and no longer relying on the state for medical bills or food assistance.
