Board Chairs Call to Strengthen Workforce Development in Oregonian Letter to the Editor

Published On: April 21, 2025

Local Workforce Development Board chairs—including Worksystems’ James Paulson—submitted a letter to the editor in The Oregonian emphasizing the critical role that workforce development plays in driving economic growth.

“Last year, Oregon’s public workforce system served more than 87,000 people with job training, career navigation and supports. This infrastructure provides stability by rapidly connecting laid-off workers to services and by helping employers adapt.”

Uncertain federal funding and shrinking local budgets threaten vital workforce services, making state action critical. Fully funding House Bill 3669—a $35 million investment in Prosperity Programs—would connect Oregonians to in-demand careers while generating $23.1 million in new tax revenue and saving $195.4 million in social service costs.
