News Release|

Worksystems is excited to announce that we are partnering with 2U, Inc. and University of Oregon Continuing and Professional Education to launch the Access 2 Education PDX Scholarship Fund.

THE NEED

In the metro-Portland area, the economic impact of COVID-19 has disproportionately affected our most vulnerable. Those with the least face uncertain job prospects and growing economic insecurity.

At the same time, we have seen an accelerated demand for advanced technological talent. This opportunity gap can be met by increasing access to affordable, high-quality training programs.

Your sponsorship helps build a pipeline of diverse talent!

THE VISION

Worksystems has teamed up with 2U, Inc., a global leader in education technology, and the University of Oregon Continuing and Professional Education to launch the Access 2 Education PDX Scholarship Fund.

The fund will help build a diverse pipeline of talent by awarding scholarships to residents historically underrepresented in tech, giving them access to high-quality, market-relevant workforce training and job search support.

In early 2021, the fund awarded six full-ride scholarships to the University of Oregon Continuing and Professional Education’s part-time UX/UI boot camp program. Scholarship funds were awarded exclusively to residents that identify as Black, African American, Hispanic, or Latino. Students came from a wide range of educational backgrounds, with half having earned less than a bachelor’s degree.

HOW YOUR COMPANY CAN HELP

Worksystems invites local employers to invest in the scholarship fund to help bridge the gap between the skills companies want and the opportunities our community needs. Sponsorships go directly to giving more students the opportunity to access this program through reduced tuition costs and a dedicated technology fund.

By supporting the scholarship fund, sponsors will:

  • Benefit from priority access to diverse talent. Your hiring team will get access to 2U’s proven talent matching and referral services while meeting the area’s acute employment needs in the wake of COVID-19. This includes access to 2U Career Fairs, networking events, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Get recognition from local community and government partners for your company’s investment in tech training, commitment to the Portland Metro community, and helping to create training-to-job opportunities for residents historically underrepresented in tech.
