We are excited to announce a new partnership with the Portland Haulers Association to provide free training to those interested in in becoming recycling/garbage haulers. Entry-level wages range from $18-$29/hour with benefits and Portland Hauler Association member companies are hiring! The industry offers career stability, wage growth, and opportunity to advance into leadership positions.
The industry-designed training includes 12-weeks of integrated hands-on and classroom training and participants will be prepared to take the Oregon Commercial Driver License (CDL) test. Participants will also have site visits to transfer stations, landfill sites and recycling centers. Training graduates will be offered interviews with local employers.
Training participants will have exposure to industry relevant topics including:
- Container Moving
- Customer Service Skills
- Fire Safety Training
- Garbage Truck Cleaning
- Hauler Specific Inspections
- Route Sheet Reading
- Using Hydraulic Hand Controls
To be eligible for this class participants must:
- Be at least 21 years of age, or turn 21, by end of training
- Pass a drug screen prior to the start of training
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Have had a Class C State Driver License for at least one year
This training is part of broader effort to diversify the hauler workforce and supplier networks. Priority for acceptance to the training will be given to women and people of color.
